I booked a navigation course for myself and my nephews over a couple of days in the Peak District. Emma had a lot to manage with teaching my nephews navigation and going over navigation skills for my bronze NNAS award. She appeared to combine this effortlessly. I was impressed by how well she kept the boys interested and enthusiastic, when I had been anticipating them getting a bit tired and fidgety with a couple of days of training. We all really enjoyed ourselves, as well as learning a lot about navigation, and it was a wonderful way to spend time with my nephews. I would highly recommend this for any parents, aunts or uncles who want an outdoor, active way to spend time with their kids.

I have known Emma since May 2018 as part of the inaugural Mountain Training Association mentoring programme. Emma was appointed by the MTA as my mentor. We have met twice so far. The first time we met was Emma’s opportunity to assess my level of knowledge and skills towards me becoming a Mountain Leader in 2019. She focussed on my navigational skills in a clear, open and practical way. The time we spent together was enjoyable and good humoured. Emma made me feel relaxed and confident in my abilities and boosted my belief in achieving my goal. The last time we met was for a full day on Kinder Scout during which we practised timing and pacing and advanced navigation techniques. Emma’s teaching style is flexible, honest and patient. So far, Emma’s impact on my Mountain Leader journey has been extremely valuable and encouraging.

My son (21 years) and I enjoyed a really great day out on the hills near Hope in Derbyshire learning the basics of map reading, using a compass and safe hill walking. Emma was a really good instructor who tailored the day to the individuals ability and who was relly enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgable. I would highly recommend her as an instructor and look forward to doing day 2 of the course.

Emma joined Yoga Hikes as one of our hiking leaders for the weekend in the Lake District and proved an excellent choice. Emma led a strenuous hike group one day and a moderate hike group on the other. Emma was extremely professional, approachable and got on really well with everyone. A fantastic weekend of hiking (and yoga) was had by all – many thanks! Would highly recommend Emma to anyone looking for a leader or guide. Hope you can join us on another yoga hikes weekend soon.

I met Emma at a weekend event held in The Lake District in May. Emma was one of two Mountain Leaders with our group and was incredible! Emma was highly skilled and professional as well as knowledgable and friendly. Emma helped to motivate and inspire when the going got tough and helped us all achieve our goal of summiting Skiddaw and Blencathra safely. We had the opportunity to learn navigation skills as well have some fun taking a refreshing dip in a mountain tarn and picnicking in some breathtakingly beautiful spots.
We couldn’t have asked for a better leader and I would recommend Emma to anyone considering a mini adventure

A truly fantastic and inspiring tailored navigation experience. Emma’s experience and expertise helped me to develop new skills, build my confidence and have fun! The day was completely tailored to my learning needs and objectives and Emma’s approach made me feel supported throughout the day. I learnt so much about navigation without feeling overwhelmed by too much information. The whole day was brilliant and far exceeded my expectations. I have no hesitation in recommending Emma’s expertise in navigation. An excellent experience.

I spent a day with Emma, who kindly fitted me in without much notice. She was quick to respond to my email, checked thoroughly what I wanted to acheive and made all the necessary arrangements. The day was well organised, very productive and went at the pace I needed. Some areas we could cover quickly as I am an experienced walker, but other areas (compass work) was woefully inadequate. Emma was so patient and methodical – her calm manner worked its magic. I left with the compass techniques I had set out to master … thank you. In addition to learning a great deal I had a lovely time, Emma was good company and I very much enjoyed swapping information and learning about the Derbyshire Moors.

I have walked with Emma for 10 years, alongside her and in groups she has led. As a leader, Emma is confident, knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic and inclusive. She is a natural leader, attuned to each walker’s individual abilities and also their potential. Many times, I have far exceeded my personal expectations on walks with Emma and learnt so much from her. She always makes the outdoors an enriching experience and thoroughly enjoyable.
I first met Emma back in April 2017 on a Mountain Training Association, Continuing Professional Development workshop. As one of her peers I have come to know Emma as a woman who is driven by her passion for the hills and mountains she journeys. Emma is knowledgeable of the mountain environment, skillful in her leadership tasks and works diligently towards her end goal. This has been proven through her tenacity to become a Summer Mountain Leader. I can personally recommend Emma as someone who will provide many a great adventure and days out in the mountains.

I’ve known Emma since 2010 when I joined a local women’s walking group which she co-managed. I was instantly struck by Emma’s enthusiasm for the outdoors, along with an aptitude for planning walks that everyone can enjoy. I have also been on a multi-day trip with Emma and 3 others to the Brecon Beacons. We stayed in a hostel and Emma encouraged us all to participate in planning suitable walks for the weekend. She also took a keen interest in the local history and would integrate her knowledge as part of the walk being scheduled. Emma makes any walk interesting and enjoys testing individuals abilities whilst presenting as a confident, capable, reliable, skilled and informative walk leader.
Emma is a passionate and personable leader. She’s knowledgeable about the hill and mountain environment but is always learning. That dedication to wanting to know more means she’s able to enthuse, educate and encourage people to enjoy the great outdoors.
I have known Emma approximately 10 years through walking. She is a lovely woman and very passionate about the outdoors. She can be trusted is safe and very approachable and very supportive. Emma is also easy to talk to and very inclusive in group situations.
I’ve been guided on many walks by Emma. I’ve have total confidence in her navigation skills and she is excellent at planning walks that take into account the fitness and ability of the group. I always have a great day and generally feel I’ve gone a bit further and done something a bit more difficult than I thought I could do which leaves me with a great sense of achievement at the end of it.
I have always found Emma to be well-organised, detailed in her planning and totally reliable. She also ‘knows her stuff’ which means I have always felt safe walking with her. I have also found her love for the outdoor environment contagious. I’d happily walk anywhere with her!
I went on my first-ever multi-day backpacking trip in Wales with Emma as a guide and what stands out most for me was her attention to detail, enthusiasm and patience. I’d always wanted to try a multi-day walk but had been too nervous, or thought I couldn’t physically do it, or worse, that I’d get lost! But Emma was so encouraging. She showed me how I could lighten my rucksack with equipment suggestions, advised me on how to save energy while walking, and more importantly I never felt bad if I lagged behind a little (which I did a lot!). Emma was patient and encouraging. I had a great time and I’d recommend her to any individual or group who want a fun, experienced and careful guide.
I have worked with Emma for many years in a mental health service and have found her to be a very patient, understanding and caring individual. She displays determination throughout and is unphased by any situation. Her empathic and compassionate nature warms her to any person she supports or works alongside.

There is a small unnamed part within us all that never grew up. Emma uses this “inner child” to enthuse and grab the attention of children. A rare talent which is as natural to her as the environment in which she teaches. An infectious thirst for the outdoors!
Emma guided myself along with a group of friends on a walking weekend in the Brecon Beacons. This was an area I’d not walked previously and I was keen to learn more about the area. Having Emma plan, organise and lead the walks meant I was able to relax with friends. I would totally recommend Emma as an excellent weekend planner and organised walk leader.
